Carrie Catherine
Saskatoon, SK
Carrie's website
Imagine Diana Ross growing up as a prolific songwriter on the Saskatchewan prairie and you’ve got Carrie Catherine and the sounds of green-eyed soul.
When Carrie Catherine brings her sassy songwriting and poetic lyrics to the stage, the story behind “green-eyed soul” comes to life. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Catherine’s songs narrate the colorful and dramatic journey of a small prairie girl struggling to discover soul music in the unlikeliest of places: the harsh, flat Canadian prairie.
The songs, the groove, and Catherine’s smooth vocal stylings draw audiences into an intimate search not just for soul but of the soul, as Carrie Catherine struggles to love, leave, and listen to the land she calls home.
“ if Saskatchewan singer-songwriter Carrie Catherine hasn’t
blipped onto your screen yet, you’re spending too much time listening in
the wrong direction… her smooth-as-old scotch voice is reminiscent of a young Bonnie Raitt (and just as growly sexy)”
—John Threlfall, Monday Magazine, Victoria BC.

Don Freed
Saskatoon, SK
website
In a career extended for more than 35 years, Don Freed has become Canada’s “everyman” songwriter and travelling bard. Continually searching the quiet corners of the country looking for a tune or a word or for a good story he has animated the people he has encountered into creating their own music. Far past the reaches of pop culture, in places where people live close to the earth, in communities where language itself is defined by nature, Don has become a student learning the words of every small village and a teacher showing children how to take those words and turn them into songs about their place in the sun.
